Mr. Monitor
Mentor
108 (48 at time of death)
he/him
ghoul / tv monster
beetlejuice cartoon
Notes: my hollywood scum man.
Appearance
A large TV-headed ghoul most notable for his four faces and wide, square-shaped physique. His skin is pale green in color and the paneling on his monitors is a darker green. He expresses himself by using either his faces, which are simple with no nose and green eyes, or by displaying red text, usually symbols or simple words. Most often, he’ll wear a sky blue suit with skull-shaped buttons and an orange or purple tie. He may choose to change the color of his tie, or even the color of his suit if he’s feeling the need to impress. May display fangs or pointed nails if he hasn’t filed them recently.
Personality
Mr. Monitor isn’t a very nice man. Oh sure, he’ll cozy up/grovel to anyone he thinks he wants to be on the good side of, but at the end of the day, he’s kinda a jerk. His motives are fairly simple; he wants to keep his job and make money. That means he needs to keep the ratings of all the shows under his supervision within a satisfactory margin. Because of this, Monitor can be shallow, unempathetic and exploitative. He’s also constantly stressed out and prone to mood swings, which can make working with him unpleasant. He will absolutely help to raise you up if you catch his interest, but he will also absolutely throw you under the bus when ratings go south. Mr. Monitor does have the occasional hint of a softer person beneath all the grouchiness. He’s just a tiny bit less nasty to and maybe even protective of those who earn his respect. There’s also a tendency he has to “adopt” individuals he’s taken a liking to: acting uncharacteristically kind, nurturing and accommodating toward them. This is very possibly because he’s unable to have kids of his own.
Background
In life, Mr. Monitor worked on a television set as a stagehand. He had dreams of being a director and was desperate to be noticed by his superiors, occasionally with reckless abandon. This carelessness led him to his demise, falling off a lighting rig into a large power generator, where he fried. Due to the sudden nature of his death, he spent years unable to accept it, haunting the set and occasionally devouring the living (as ya do). Over time, the terror he caused ended in the set being abandoned. He was eventually able to move on and overcome his more ghoulish nature. He gained employment at a network in the Neitherworld. Mr. Monitor is bitter toward his bright-eyed coworkers because he believes his own dreams were stolen from him, and, out of spite, only measures anyone’s worth by ratings and by extent the money they can make him.
Mr. Monitor has been working for the Neitherworld Network for a long time: long enough to gain a decently powerful position. Although he’s fearful of the Head of the Network, Monitor will still make decisions the Head wouldn’t approve of if he thinks it’ll improve ratings. He defends his position viciously when he feels he can afford to, but keeps his head down if someone who can get him in trouble is around. Unless you’re one of those rare few who gain his respect, he’ll use anyone and everyone to feed his hunger for high ratings. Putting others in serious danger is a recurring theme with this man. Nowadays, Mr. Monitor is beginning to grow restless and resentful of his position in the Network: he’s second in line to the proverbial throne but it doesn’t look like he’ll ever get any higher than that. Mr. Monitor secretly wishes he was the next network mogul; he wants to be the Head.
Unfortunately for the large ghoul, he was whisked away to the island. Although he should be grateful he wasn't asked to compete, Monitor still has a dismissive attitude toward the teams he's supposed to be helping. He's more interested in making a profit and so, worming his way closer to the Game Master.
